Soba Noodle Azuma

For Mother’s Day, we all went out for lunch at this delicious Japanese Soba restaurant called Soba Noodle Azuma, located in Fort Lee, NJ. It was so good that I knew I had to write about it and share on my blog. If you love soba noodles and/or looking for a nice noodle alternative besides ramen, then this is a must try! If you’ve never had soba noodles before, it is a type of noodle that is made mainly from buckwheat and is typically served chilled with a side of dipping sauce or hot in a broth. In my opinion, the taste and texture of soba noodles is much lighter and more refreshing than ramen noodles. It also makes for a great summer meal when the weather is too hot for a heavy dish.

There is an extensive menu of Japanese dishes like soba & bowl sets, udon & bowl sets, teishoku entree sets, okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and many more. To share, we ordered the takoyaki (deep fried octopus balls), agedashi tofu (deep fried soft tofu served with an umami flavored sauce), karaage fried chicken, and fried squid. For my main course, I knew I had to try the Azuma Gozen which comes with a side of assorted tempura, dashimaki, assorted sashimi (tuna and salmon), rice, and soba noodles. For the same price, you can order up to 300 grams of soba noodles or as little as 100 grams. I suggest that you go hungry and ask for the largest portion.

Everything tasted delicious and dining here really reminded me of Japan. I loved how light tasting the soba noodles were and how there was also a nice bite to it. The sashimi was fresh and just the right amount to be had on the side. The Azuma Gozen presentation was absolutely stunning and so much fun to eat. Looking forward to trying the udon set next time!

Must order: takoyaki, agedashi tofu, and azuma gozen
